Club scarf budget: how to plan the cost of your order

A club scarf budget comes down to two things: the technique and the quantity. Prices are per scarf, ex VAT and excluding delivery, and they drop at 100, 250, 500 and 1,000 pieces. Add any extras, check the next tier up, and plan resale before you order.

A club scarf budget depends on two things: the technique you choose and the number of scarves you order. Prices are per scarf, in the standard 140 × 18 cm size, ex VAT and excluding delivery, and they fall at each quantity tier. To build a budget you can rely on, add any extras, pick the right tier and, if you are selling the scarves on, work out what the sales could bring in.

How the price tiers work

There are five tiers: 50, 100, 250, 500 and 1,000 scarves. A tier applies as soon as you reach its quantity, so 180 scarves are charged at the 100-piece price. The full table for each technique is on our football scarf prices page, and the scarf configurator shows your exact price as you design.

In broad terms:

  • Classic jacquard, thick and warm, is the usual terrace choice and the most affordable knitted scarf.
  • HD jacquard and HD woven cost a little more but reproduce a detailed badge far better.
  • Printed satin is the cheapest at every quantity and handles photos, but it is the least warm.

Extras to include in your budget

  • Embroidery, per scarf.
  • Woven label, per scarf.
  • Individual bag, per scarf.
  • Express production: +20% on the total, to shorten the lead time (confirmed on your quote).

Delivery to your UK address and VAT are added to the total and shown on the quote.

Choosing the right quantity

The minimum is 50 scarves per design. Above that, the right quantity is a balance between what you actually need and the effect of the tiers.

Look at the next tier up

Just below a tier, ordering a few more can cost less overall. The test is simple: compare your quantity × your current tier price with the next tier quantity × the next tier price.

  • At 90 scarves you pay the 50-piece price on all 90. At 100 you drop to the 100-piece price, and 100 scarves often come out cheaper than 90.
  • The same often happens between 230 and 250 scarves, or between 450 and 500.

Try a few quantities around your estimate in the configurator before you send your request: the price updates instantly.

Start from need, not wishful thinking

Count players, coaches, volunteers and active members, then the supporters likely to buy one. A scarf sitting in a box in the clubhouse is not a saving, even at the best tier.

Three worked examples

We have kept the figures out of these examples because prices are reviewed regularly: plug the current tier prices into each calculation, or recreate the order in the configurator.

Example 1: a non-league club, 150 jacquard scarves

A club wants to kit out its players and sell the rest at the tea bar and club shop. It chooses classic jacquard, two colours and the club name.

  • 150 scarves → 100-piece tier: 150 × the 100-piece unit price.

On the resale side, set your selling price before you order. If the whole batch sells, your margin is 150 × (selling price − unit price), before VAT and delivery. That is only a projection: the price and pace of sales are up to you. See our football club scarves page for design ideas.

Example 2: a supporters’ trust, two designs

A supporters’ trust wants a “heritage” scarf with a detailed crest and a more playful one with a photo of the club’s promotion-winning squad.

  • Design 1, HD jacquard, 100 scarves → 100-piece tier.
  • Design 2, printed satin, 50 scarves → 50-piece tier.
  • Individual bags on the satin scarves: 50 × the bag price.

Each design meets the 50-piece minimum and is priced on its own quantity. Ideas for organised groups are on our supporters club scarves page.

Example 3: a university society or rugby club, express order

A student society, or a rugby club, orders 250 HD woven scarves with a woven label and needs them quickly.

  • 250 scarves → 250-piece tier, plus the woven label on each scarf.
  • Express production adds 20% to that subtotal.

Express has a real cost: it adds a fifth to the bill. Planning ahead is still the best saving. For schools and universities, see also our school and university scarves.

Raising funds through resale

For many grassroots clubs and community groups, a scarf is as much a fundraiser as a badge of belonging. The difference between what you pay and what you sell for can go towards:

  • equipment (balls, kits, training gear);
  • an away trip, a tournament or a tour;
  • the end-of-season presentation night.

A few habits keep it profitable: set the selling price before you order, include delivery in your cost per scarf, and put one person in charge of stock and cash. Charities and community groups will find more ideas on our charity and community scarves page.

Cut the risk with pre-orders

Pre-orders are the best way to get the quantity right. Share the design link from the configurator with your members or on the club’s social media, and open a pre-order list for two or three weeks. Then order based on firm commitments, with a margin for matchday sales.

The approved artwork is your sales tool: the design proof is free, with unlimited changes, and nothing is made until you approve it.

The calendar is part of the budget

Production takes 4–6 weeks after you approve the design proof. For the start of the season, a cup run or Christmas, order at least 8 weeks before your date: that is what saves you paying for express. Details are on our production times page. Once your quantity and design are settled, a quote request gives you the exact amount, delivery and VAT included.

To design a football scarf, pick a technique, set your colours, wording and crest in the configurator, choose a quantity (50 minimum) and approve the free design proof. Production then takes 4–6 weeks.

  • Scarf slogan ideas

The best scarf slogan is short, in capitals and in strong contrast: about 15 characters on classic jacquard and 25 on HD jacquard. Here are 50 ideas sorted by theme to help you find yours.

  • Washing your scarf

Wash your football scarf at 30°C on a delicate cycle, or by hand, then dry it flat and keep it out of the tumble dryer. The details depend on whether it is knitted acrylic (jacquard) or woven polyester (woven or satin).
